Recently, Secretary of the CPC Nanjing Medical University (NMU) Committee, Lan Qing, led a delegation to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Egypt for exchange visits. Relevant leaders from the Party Committee Office, Graduate School, Discipline Development and Planning Office, Department of International Cooperation & Exchange, and the First Affiliated Hospital, NMU participated in the exchange activities.
In the UAE, Secretary Lan Qing and his delegation visited Burjeel Medical Group and Fakih University Hospital, where they held in-depth discussions on medical technology cooperation, the development and management of medical groups, and medical personnel training. The Chairman of Burjeel Medical Group, Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, met with the delegation and accompanied them on a tour of Burjeel Medical City and Burjeel Royal Hospital, providing a comprehensive introduction to the group’s advanced medical facilities and management model. At Fakih University Hospital, the delegation and hospital officials agreed to establish a long-term and stable partnership, aiming for deep cooperation through student training, physician training, clinical technology exchange, and medical research. Secretary Lan Qing signed a cooperation framework agreement with the Chairman of Fakih University Hospital, Mohammed, laying a foundation for future close collaboration between both parties.
During the visit, Secretary Lan Qing and his delegation also attended the inauguration ceremony of the NMU’s Alumni Association in the UAE. He shared the university’s recent achievements with the alumni representatives, emphasizing the pivotal role of the Alumni Association in integrating alumni resources, uniting alumni efforts, and enhancing the university’s social influence in the UAE and globally. He also extended an invitation for alumni to return to their alma mater for its upcoming 90th-anniversary celebrations. The alumni expressed their gratitude for the education they received and pledged their continued support for the university’s development and active efforts to boost its global impact.
In Egypt, the delegation visited Ain Shams University and Badr University. At Ain Shams University, Secretary Lan Qing met with President Mohamed Diaa El-Din and leaders from relevant departments to explore cooperation opportunities under the China-Africa paired hospital cooperation framework. Discussions focused on expanding collaboration through joint faculty and student training, scientific research cooperation, and clinical treatment coordination to enhance both universities’ core competitiveness in international talent cultivation. The delegation also toured key facilities at Ain Shams University, including its affiliated hospital, simulation center, and medical research institute.
During the visit to Badr University, Secretary Lan Qing engaged in discussions with Prof. Ashraf Mohamed Shehata, University President and former Egyptian Minister of Higher Education, as well as Prof. Amr El-Sayed, Vice President for International Relations, and Prof. Mohamed El-Manzalawy, Vice President for Scientific Research and current Presidential Scientific Advisor. Badr University leaders shared their plans to build the largest medical city in the Middle East and expressed aspirations to deepen collaboration in fields such as pharmacy, dental medicine, and physical therapy, aiming to advance global education and healthcare development.
