On January 9, Clarivate Analytics released the latest data based on the Essential Science Indicators (ESI), revealing that NMU’s “Engineering” discipline has, for the first time, entered the global top 1% in the ESI subject rankings. This milestone marks a significant breakthrough in the development of our engineering discipline. Globally, a total of 2,662 institutions are ranked in the “Engineering” discipline, and our university is ranked 2,589th.
Since 2014, the number of our disciplines ranked in the global top 1% by ESI has steadily increased. Currently, 14 of our disciplines are ranked in the ESI top 1%, with our international ranking having improved by 724 positions since 2014. Among them, “Clinical Medicine”, “Pharmacology and Toxicology”, and “Molecular Biology and Genetics” are ranked in the top 1‰ of ESI subjects.
In recent years, our university has focused on the goals of the “Double First-Class” initiative and the development of high-level universities in Jiangsu, with discipline development as a central driving force. We have continuously optimized our academic structure, strengthened our disciplinary strengths, and promoted interdisciplinary innovation. These efforts have contributed to the high-quality development of our disciplines, further enhancing our academic influence and international recognition.
ESI (Essential Science Indicators) is a research performance analysis and evaluation database based on the Web of Science Core Collection, which tracks and ranks the scientific performance and research strength of the top 1% of institutions across 22 global subject areas.
