NMU Hosts the 2024 International Young Scholars Forum

On December 20, Nanjing Medical University (NMU) officially launched the 2024 NMU International Young Scholars Forum at its Jiangning campus. Over 300 young scholars from nearly 100 prestigious universities and research institutions across 19 countries and regions participated in the event, either in person or online. Lan Qing, the Secretary of the CPC NMU Committee, and Chen Meihua, Deputy Director of the CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee’s Assessment Office and Talent Office, attended the opening ceremony. The forum was hosted by Xu Shan, Vice Secretary of the CPC NMU Committee.

 

In his opening speech, Secretary Lan Qing highlighted that over the past 90 years since its founding, NMU has remained committed to its founding mission, continuously striving for high-quality development. The university has firmly implemented the “Talent-Strong University” strategy, treating talent development as its top priority. NMU actively seeks to attract and nurture talent with the best rewards, the utmost sincerity, and exceptional services, fully embodying the principles of “respect for knowledge, respect for talent”. This commitment has created a platform for young talents to pursue their aspirations and entrepreneurial endeavors.

Secretary Lan also introduced the university’s research platforms, academic environment, talent policies, and management services, emphasizing four key dimensions: “height”, “breadth”, “strength”, and “warmth”. He stated that NMU is now better equipped than ever to help young scholars realize their professional goals and sincerely invited both domestic and international scholars to join NMU and fulfill their dreams.

Chen Meihua, on behalf of the Municipal Party Committee’s Organization Department and Talent Office, extended her warm congratulations on the successful forum hosting. She noted that NMU has always flourished alongside the city of Nanjing, contributing to the cultivation of numerous outstanding medical professionals for the city’s healthcare system. She shared the city’s talent recruitment policies, training mechanisms, and service guarantees, demonstrating Nanjing’s genuine commitment and enthusiasm toward young scholars. She encouraged young researchers to join NMU, settle in Nanjing, and create their own academic successes and fulfilling careers. 

Professor Wu Dan, a newly recruited faculty member from the School of Public Health, shared her experiences and insights regarding her transition to NMU. Professor Wang Meilin, Director of the Office of Human Resources and the Office of Talent Affairs, elaborated on the university’s talent policies, addressing concerns commonly raised by young scholars, including recruitment benefits, talent project applications, and the comprehensive support system throughout their academic careers. Professor Gu Aihua, Executive Vice Dean of the Scientific Research Institute, presented an overview of the university’s research landscape, detailing the platforms, facilities, management services, and financial support available for young scholars. Professor Yang Shuo, a distinguished young scholar and recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, delivered an academic report, sharing the latest advancements and outcomes in his research field. The forum also featured the premiere of NMU’s talent recruitment promotional video. 

On December 21, the forum hosted seven specialized sub-forums focusing on topics such as Basic Medicine, Public Health, Pharmacy, Nursing, Medical Engineering Integration, Clinical Medicine, and Dentistry. Feng Feng, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC NMU Committee and Vice President of NMU, attended the sub-forums and delivered a speech. During the forum, the Office of Talent Affairs organized visits to NMU’s historical museum, the State Key Laboratory of Reproductive Medicine and Offspring Health, the Jiangsu Provincial Medical Animal Experimentation Base, and the China National Birth Cohort Research Center, among other research platforms and facilities.

Since 2018, NMU has held the International Young Scholars Forum for seven consecutive years, attracting over 1,300 participants. The event has become a signature initiative for the university’s talent recruitment and intellectual exchange efforts, continually providing strong momentum for NMU’s dynamic growth and development.
