On August 18, the 4th Huaxia Public Health Forum was held in Hohhot, the provincial capital of the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region. Organized by the Public Health and Preventive Medicine Branch of the China International Exchange and Promotion Association For Medical and Health Care (CPAM), the forum was co-hosted by our university and Inner Mongolia Medical University.
The event drew distinguished attendees, including Academicians Han Demin, Shen Hongbing, and Wu Tangchun of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Academician Gu Dongfeng of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as President Hu Zhibin and Vice President Xia Yangkai from NMU, President Zhao Yunshan and Vice President Lu Haiwen from Inner Mongolia Medical University, and representatives from the Education Department of the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region and the region’s Health Commission. Additionally, leaders, experts, scholars, and teacher and student representatives from universities, research institutes, disease prevention and control centers, and medical institutions across the country were present. They gathered to advance the high-quality development of public health and discuss strategies for integrating medical prevention mechanisms.
At the opening ceremony, Academician Shen Hongbing, Chairman of the Public Health and Preventive Medicine Branch and Deputy Director of the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, reviewed the branch’s achievements over the past four years and the organization of the Huaxia Forum. He emphasized the branch’s commitment to using the forum to continue fostering collaboration and exchange in public health, with a focus on people’s health and the promotion of high-quality development through integration, collaboration, and innovation.
Academician Han Demin, President of CPAM, addressed the unprecedented global changes humanity is facing. He stressed, in the context of a community with a shared future, the need for strategic thinking to manage both domestic and international challenges, handle predictable and unpredictable crises, and leverage strategic opportunities to build a strong socialist nation.
The keynote academic forum featured reports from Academicians Han Demin, Gu Dongfeng, Wu Tangchun, Shen Hongbing, and President Hu Zhibin on topics including “Building a New Quality Service System for Medicine and Health,” “Challenges and Outlook in Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Control in China,” “Protecting Human Health and Sharing a Better Life,” “Reforms and High-Quality Development of Disease Prevention and Control Systems in China,” and “Advances in China’s Birth Cohort Research.” The forum was presided over by Vice President Xia Yangkai from NMU, Dean He Na of the School of Public Health at Fudan University, and Dean Wang Jianming from the School of Public Health, NMU.
In the afternoon, the forum included two sub-forums: “Public Health Research Innovation” and “High-Quality Development of Disease Prevention and Control.” Additionally, a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Public Health and Preventive Medicine Branch was held.
The Huaxia Public Health Forum is an annual national conference organized by the Public Health and Preventive Medicine Branch of CPAM. This year’s forum centered on the theme “Integration and Innovation to Promote High-Quality Development in Public Health.” It aims to thoroughly implement the principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, define future directions for public health and preventive medicine disciplines, encourage medical research innovation, train high-level professionals, advance public health scientific progress, enhance public health security, and contribute to building a “Healthy China” and a “Strong Education Nation.”
