The NMU Affiliated Stomatology Hospital (Jiangsu Provincial Stomatological Hospital, School of Stomatology, NMU, and Jiangsu Red Cross Stomatological Hospital) is the first Class III Type A dental specialty hospital in Jiangsu Province. It’s also the carrier of Jiangsu Oral Hygiene Guidance Center, Jiangsu Dental Medicine Professional Quality Control Center, and Jiangsu Provincial Basic Characteristic Department Incubation Center. Currently, the hospital is the vice president unit of the Chinese Stomatological Association (CSA) and the president unit of the Jiangsu Stomatological Association (JSSA). After 47 years of development, the hospital has become Jiangsu’s center for the clinical service, teaching, scientific research, prevention and training of stomatological medicine.
In the hospital, there are 771 staff, 139 of whom are with senior professional titles, 67 master supervisors, and 18 Ph.D. supervisors; 64 person/times serving as the expert panel member in CSA, 25 person/times receiving the China State Council Special Allowances, “Jiagnsu Distinguished Young and Middle-aged Experts Awards”, Jiangsu Leadership Medical Talent Award, Jiagnsu Distinguished Yaouth Scholar Fund and other awards at or above Jiangsu province level.
With a total diagnosis and treatment area of more than 63,000 m2, the hospital is configured with 13 first-level clinical departments, 7 medical technical departments, and 7 outpatient clinics with nearly 800,000 annual outpatient and emergency visits and over 3,000 patients discharged every year. The Departments of Endodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics, and Orthodontics are national key clinical specialties, and the main departments of stomatology are provincial key clinical specialties.
The hospital was the first in China proposing “3 minutes before diagnosis” in China and affirmed by the Ministry of Health (MoH). It is the first “National Physician Qualification Examination Practice Skills Examination and Examiner Training Base” (Stomatology) and the provincial demonstration clinical base for stomatological GP training in Jiangsu province. It is also one of the first national standardized training bases for resident physicians (Stomatology) and the standardized training bases for specialists in oral and maxillofacial surgery. In the latest ranking of China’s best stomatology released by the Institute of Hospital Management of Fudan University, the hospital ranked 8th in China and 1st in Jiangsu Province.
As the only strength discipline of the same kind in Jiangsu Province, the stomatology is structured with a post-doctoral research station, level 1 discipline Ph.D degree program and specialty Ph.D program. It was rated B+ grade (top 10%-20%) in the 4th round of national level 1 stomatology discipline evaluation; it ranked 5th in the Best Chinese Universities Rankings—Stomatology Specialty and 5th in Chinese University Undergraduate Education Rankings 2021-Stomatology Specialty. The stomatology program is one of the first national first-class undergraduate programs, featured higher education specialties, branded higher education specialties and key specialties in Jiangsu Province; it’s also the winner of the Second Prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award and the First Prize of the Jiangsu Teaching Achievement Award.
The hospital has established Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Oral Disease Research and Jiangsu Oral Translational Medicine Engineering Research Center; it has undertaken more than 180 projects of various levels and types in the recent 5 years, including 48 key projects under NSFC; the hospital authored 797 papers, 349 of which SCI-indexed; it also obtained 35 patents and 21 awards such as the Second Prize of the Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award by the Ministry of Education (MoE), the Second Prize of Natural Science Award of the MoE, and the Second Prize of Jiangsu Science and Technology Award. In the ranking of Chinese Hospital Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM) released in 2020, the hospital ranked 7th in China and 1st in Jiangsu Province.
