Jointly-established by the Nanjing Jiangbei New Area Management Committee and NMU, the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University (NMU) is a comprehensive teaching hospital integrated with medical service, medical teaching, and medical research. The hospital has three branch campuses (Jingxin campus, Puyuan campus, Nanyuan campus) and adopted integrated administration.
Currently, the hospital is one of the first Internet hospitals in Jiangsu Province, the designated Internet hospitals covered by basic medical insurance, and the chairman unit of the Jiangbei New Area Emergency Medicine Specialty Alliance. The hospital has been successfully established one of Jiangsu’s earliest stroke centers, the Nanjing Rescue & Treatment Center, and Nanjing Chest Pain Treatment Center; it is also the home to 15 Nanjing municipal key medical specialties.
The hospital adheres to the goal of building a truly affiliated hospital of NMU so that people in Jiangbei can seek medical treatment without travelling across the Yangtze River. Based on the strategic positioning of “3 Districts and 1 Platform” for the Jiangbei New Area, with the industrial landmark of “3 Centers and 1 Highland” as the target, it actively builds a regional medical center in Jiangbei New Area, with efforts focused on building the emergency medicine center, tumor center, breast (thyroid) center, ophthalmology center, health management center, metabolic disease management center, rehabilitation (heart +postpartum) center, etc.
The hospital focuses on the construction of isotopic medicine, tumor radiotherapy, geriatrics, and reproductive medicine, wavering the trouble of travelling across the Yangtze River to get medical treatments and also upgrading the level of medical services available to Nanjing people. It actively echoes the national strategy of “graded diagnosis and treatment” and gives full play to the role of a backbone hospital. It has established a close “medical consortium” with the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of NMU as the core and community health service centers like the Taishan, Yanjiang, Dingshan, and Pancheng as the buttress. The hospital also developed and built the Internet hospital to boost telemedicine and chronic disease management.
Upholding the philosophy “hospital prosperity on the basis of science and education”, the hospital puts equal emphasis on developing medicine, education and research. In 2020, the hospital made breakthroughs in getting the funding supports from the “National Natural Science Foundation of China” and the “Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province”. Leveraging the high-quality disciplinary resources of NMU, the hospital has established strategic cooperation with many affiliated hospitals of NMU.
The hospital has the world’s leading Philips 3.0 MRI, 128-row CT, Elekta linear accelerator, Siemens dual-CT, 4K endoscope, capsule gastroscope, Rowa automatic drug dispenser, Roche biochemical immunoassay automated analyzer, hyperbaric oxygen chamber, DSA hybrid operating room (OR) and other advanced medical equipment and facilities to provide strong support for improving the level of clinical medical service in Jiangbei New Area.
In the prevention and control work against the sudden attack from the COVID-19 pandemic in year 2020, with the outstanding performance, the hospital was honored the title of “Nanjing City Model Unit in Fighting COVID-19”. Li Ruzhi and Zhang Qiaoyun, two nurses of the hospital, was the member in the first batch of Jiangsu Medical Rescue Task Force to Hubei. Li Ruzhi was awarded the honorary titles of “Model Individual in Fighting against COVID-19 of Jiangsu Province” and “March 8th Red Flag Bearer in Jiangsu Province”; Zhang Qiaoyun was awarded “March 8th Red Flag Bearer of Nanjing City” and “The Most Admirable Medical Worker in Nanjing”. Zhai Changyuan and Li Xianjiang went to the Kunshan Infected Case Transit Transportation Base to support the transfer of inbound travelers; Han Fei became a member of the Jiangsu provincial medical aid team to Hebei Province; Shen Fuyu became a member of the Jiangsu provincial medical aid team to Tibet.
