The Second School of Clinical Medicine is founded within the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University (NMU), a directly-affiliated hospital to NMU and also a 70-years-history Class III Type A general hospital directly administered by the Jiangsu Provincial Health Commission.
The school now has 4 departments, 11 teaching and research sections, 7 teaching and research groups, 15 Ph.D. programs, and 31 master programs. It is the post-doctoral mobile station of NMU. In the strong faculty team of the school, 462 are qualified clinical educators, 292 certified clinical teaching staff, including 23 full professors, 56 associate professors, and 216 lecturers; the school has 29 Ph.D. supervisors and 111 master supervisors, all of whom teach students in 33 majors and subjects: there are 8 expert recipients of China State Council Special Allowance, 1 NMU-accredited Famous Teacher and 1 NMU-accredited Famous Physician. The school boasts rich teaching resources, including 2 NMU key laboratories, 1 experiment center, 1 student dormitory, 1 clinical skills training center, 4 theoretical classrooms, 18 demo-classrooms. The construction area of teaching-purported space adds up to be over 5,000 m2.
Committed to its founding mission of “fostering virtue and cultivating talents”, ever since institutionalized as NMU-affiliated hospital in 1981, the school has been undertaking educational programs in clinical medicine and other specialties over the past 40 years, including theoretical and residency education programs for 5-year term and 7-year term clinical medicine, pediatric medicine and other majors. The school also conducts clinical residency program for the streams of clinical medicine, nursing, imaging medicine, clinical pharmacy, rehabilitation medicine, and international students MBBS, etc. The school independently enrolls undergraduates and graduate students and stages integrated management. Currently, there are more than 1,200 junior undergraduates, nearly 400 graduate students, and more than 600 residency and interns.
The school has carried out in-depth teaching reforms, and avails 8 new E-learning online courses, 6 undergraduate selective courses, and 2 postgraduate selective courses; early exposure of clinical practice and PBL courses, compiled 7 course syllabuses, edited or co-edited 7 textbooks; be granted with 27 Jiangsu Province college students practical innovation training projects; won teaching achievement awards and many teaching paper awards at provincial-level and NMU-level.
The school has been awarded the first prize, second prize and excellent organization prize in NMU internship mid-term teaching inspection appraisals. The residency trained in the school has won the first and second prizes of the clinical skills operation competition of NMU for many times. Among them, the overseas interns won the first prize in the 2nd National Clinical Thinking and Skills Competition for International Medical Students in China in 2018, and the graduate student team won the first prize in the 16th “Challenge Cup” National College Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition in 2019.
During the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, the school will uphold the motto of “exquisite skills, complete sincerity, utmost kindness, true love”, make every effort to build a “new medical school”, and strive to build the clinical medicine professional talent training base into a demonstration model for medical education talent training.
