The School of Nursing, Nanjing Medical University (NMU) is one of China’s first schoolsestablished with the nursing department and resumednursing undergraduate education program. Its nursing program is now the national-level first-class undergraduate disciplinary program, a national-level specialty and a branded specialty in Jiangsu Province. In the School of Nursing, there is a provincialnursing experimental teaching demonstration center, a featured leading disciplinary lab (nursing) jointly established by the central and local governments; national first-class undergraduate courses including the National Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Project, National Excellent Online Open Courses; the school is also the chief editor unit for national programmed textbooks and provincial key textbook; it also founded the “International Stoma Therapist School”. The nursing discipline of the School is one of the first first-level nursing Ph.D degree programs and level 1 discipline master degree program, the first nursing master degree authorization points in China, the level 1 discipline key discipline in Jiangsu Province, and the strength discipline of Jiangsu-based universities; it clinical nursing program is a national key clinical specialty. The nursing education has formed a multi-level talent training system covering undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and continuing nursing education. In the 4thround of disciplinary appraisal by the Ministry of Education (MoE) in 2017, the nursing discipline was appraised with B+ grade .
Established with a group of education bases with solid strength and leading technical resources, the school integrates teaching, academic research and clinical practice, upholding the motto of “Knowledgeable and prudent, virtuous and caring”, it has established the operation philosophy of “well coordinated development of knowledge, ability, and quality, mutually reinforced learning, practice, and innovation”. The teaching philosophy of “solidin foundation, focused in humanities, enhanced in practice, encouraged in innovation and committed to excellence" has been established, forming the operation features of “interconnected theory-practice-application, bonded basic-clinical-community, science-technology-humanities, facilitating teaching-scientific research-service”. The school has developed into a training base, scientific research base, and academic exchange center for advanced nursing talents.
The schoolentered into friendly collaboration with partners from the United States, Britain, Australia, Singapore, Canada, Sweden, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and other countries and regionssuccessively and carried out regular academic exchanges, bilateral cooperation andstudent exchanges.Every year, outstanding faculties are dispatched to pursue overseas training, studies, inspection and visits. every year, the school also receives visiting and exchange students of nursing majors from the Queensland University of Technology in Australia and Gothenburg University in Sweden, etc. Since 2019, the School started enrolling nursing-major international students. Through extensive exchanges and cooperation, nursing education ofthe school has gradually reached international standards.
Committed to cultivating outstanding future nursing leaders, the School has output to major medical schools and units, during the past 4 decades, a large number of professional talents for nursing education, management and clinical nursing practices. Majority of such graduates from the undergraduate programs have become the backbone of the nursing community in Jiangsu and China at large. And many of them have become famousnursing experts and scholars.
