Medical genetics focuses on the application of the principles of genetics to elucidate and deal with human diseases. Its aim is to control the development and spread of genetic diseases. Genetic diseases focused on include single gene disorders, chromosome disorders, multifactorial disorders, mitochondria disorders as well as somatic cell genetic diseases. Medical genetics is a subject concerned with the mechanisms of the occurrence and development, transmission patterns, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and prevention of genetic diseases.
