Professor Markus W. Büchler, a worldwide renowned expert in general surgery, the director of the faculty of surgery at Heidelberg University in Germany, and the director of European Pancreas Center, visited Nanjing Medical University on the afternoon of June 28, 2016. He is warmly received by Shen Hongbing, President of NMU, as well as directors and deans of Department of Science & Technology, Graduate School, and Department of International Cooperation & Exchange.
On behalf of Nanjing Medical University, President Shen Hongbing extended sincere welcome to Professor Büchler and introduced the overall situation of NMU. Professor Büchler presented his work on medicine and education in many countries, particularly his collaboration with Professor Miao Yi’s team. Two parties exchanged ideas of further cooperation in the meeting.
Professor Büchler has visited China many times to participate in the academic exchange with surgical departments at various levels in China, and to exchange advanced abdominal surgical techniques and ideas with Chinese peers. He assisted NMU to establish China’s first pancreas diagnosis and treatment center led by the Department of Pancreatic Surgery with participation from multiple disciplines. One purpose of his visit is to receive an honorary doctorate awarded by Nanjing Medical University.
