On the afternoon of September 7, 2016, President Shen Hongbing held talks with Mr. Lakshitha Ratnayake, the Consul General of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in Shanghai. Representatives from Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, Foreign Affairs Office of Nanjing Municipal People’s Government, NMU Department of International Cooperation and Exchange and some students from Sri Lanka attended the meeting.
President Shen Hongbing made a brief introduction to NMU and mentioned international student education of the University, and especially pointed out the life and study of Sri Lankan students in NMU. He hoped Consul General Ratnayake could help NMU to make some connections with Sri Lankan local colleges and hospitals in order to create opportunities for Sri Lanka students to do internship and find future jobs.
Consul General Ratnayake expressed his appreciation for all the support and help that NMU has offered to the Sri Lankan students. He hoped that through mutual collaborations, a Sri Lankan Student Association could be founded, which can further promote the exchanges and communication between Chinese and Sri Lankan students and continually deepen the exchange and cooperation between both countries.
Consul General Ratnayake also talked with Sri Lankan student representatives after the meeting.
NMU started to enroll Sri Lankan students since 2010 and so far altogether 80 Sri Lankan students have come to NMU to study.
