Nanjing Medical University held the first session of its human library in the multifunctional studio of the library in Jiangning campus on the evening of May 12, 2016. NMU leaders Shen Hongbing and Lu Xiang took part in the activity and they were the “Human Books” for teachers and students to “borrow and read”.
The theme of this activity was “Fun of Reading”. In the process of face-to-face communication, Lu Xiang, Vice President of Nanjing Medical University, pointed out that in an age of information explosion, undergraduates should be good at using the Internet to fully grasp the information and deeply advocate reading. Shen Hongbing, President of Nanjing Medical University, expected the students to treasure the precious time and harbor a pleasant attitude to read more books. Besides learning from medical books, students should broaden their interests and hobbies in order to become multi-dimensional and well-developed persons.
Originated from Denmark, the Human Library breaks through the limitation of reading experience bounded by the traditional library. It provides readers with face-to-face communication, thus realizing zero-distance mutual communication between readers and “human books”. This activity not only enables readers to enjoy diversified lives, but also brings a new kind of library resources besides paper resources and electronic resources.
