Pubdate:2016-08-31

The 2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) was released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy on August 15, 2016. ARWU lists the world’s Top 500 research universities. Nanjing Medical University has been included in this list for three consecutive years, with its current rank slightly improved over last year.

41 universities from mainland China are on the ranking list. It is the first time that Tsinghua University and Peking University broke into top 100. There are five universities of Jiangsu Province on it, namely Nanjing University, Suzhou University, Southeast University, Nanjing Medical University and Nanjing University of Science and Technology. Only three independent medical universities throughout China have made into the ranking, which are respectively Capital Medical University, Nanjing Medical University and Peking Union Medical College.

Academic Ranking of World Universities was started by the Graduate School of Education (formerly the Institute of Higher Education) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Starting from 2003, it has released 14 editions. ARWU has been presenting the world’s Top 500 universities annually based on a set of objective criteria and verifiable third-party data, with scientific achievement and academic performance that are comparable worldwide as its main indicators. ARWU is considered one of the most influential and prestigious international rankings of world universities.
