Director of Public Health England (PHE) Mr. Duncan Selbie, Chairman of Global Health Council Prof. Sian Griffiths, Director of International Public Health Prof. Anthony Kessel and Director of Global Health Strategy Ms. Gemma Lien visited our school on Dec. 2nd. President Hongbing Shen and representatives from International Exchange and Cooperation Office and School of Public Health received them.
Mr. Duncan Selbie and Prof. Anthony Kessel gave presentations entitled “The Role and Priorities of Public Health England” and “The UK Response to the Current Ebola Outbreak in West Africa” respectively during the meeting. Mr. Duncan Selbie also introduced the current health condition in UK and the responsibilities, organizations, work focus and the future perspective of PHE. Prof. Anthony Kessel introduced the spreading path, distribution and clinical manifestation of Ebola virus and shared the main strategies of how to cope with it.
President Hongbing Shen and Mr. Duncan Selbie discussed the future cooperation of PHE and Nanjing Medical University. The two sides will cooperate on personnel exchange, research cooperation and students training in the future.
Mr. Duncan Selbie was appointed PHE Chief Executive in 2012, and became a tenured Chief Executive in 2013. He was the Chief Executive at Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals from 2007 to 2012, and was the Director General of Programmes and Performance for the NHS from 2003 to 2007. Prof. Anthony Kessel, a public health physician and a medical ethicist, is currently PHE’s Director of International Public Health and an honorary professor of Public Health and Human Rights International Programme of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
