Pubdate:2014-02-24

On December 27th 2013, Nanjing Medical University hosted a symposium for the compilation of Epidemiology on its Jiangning campus. This national digital medical teaching resource, edited by Professor Shen Hongbing, is listed in the twelfth Five Year Plan by the National Health and Family Planning Commission. It is the second book compiled by NMU, following the previous digital teaching resource, Doctor-Patient Communications. More than thirty professors and experts from nearly twenty medical colleges attended the symposium, including Yang Jin, director of the Advanced Medicine Editing Centre at the People's Medical Publishing House, Zhou Yongjin, head of the Electronic Audio-Visual Publishing Department, Shen Hongbing, NMU vice president, as well as representatives from the Office of Educational Administration and the School of Public Health.
During the symposium, Shen Hongbing, the chief editor, discussed with other editors issues of drafting outlines, committee membership, the use of an “online compilation platform” and material collection, all based on the three principles of autonomous study, teamwork, and task focus. Experts and editors from the People's Medical Publishing House further expounded upon the importance and more detailed requirements of publishing of this edition.
In contrast to traditional paper books, digital teaching resources have image, audio, video, and three-dimensional animation features. Digital resources will play a major role in education, especially in autonomous study and teaching interactivity, and will play an important role in the development of future medical teaching materials. The compilation of Epidemiology and Doctor-Patient Communications at NMU will exert great influence in boosting medical educational reform.
