Ministry of Education Experts Inspects the Teaching of International Students in the Third School of Clinical Medicine

In order to standardize the teaching of the MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery), improve teaching quality and maintain our country’s reputation for higher education around the world, the department of international student affairs of the Chinese Association of Tertiary Education was instructed to conduct an inspection of tertiary-level schools which have international students majoring in clinical medicine and teaching hospitals which accept interns. The department of the Ministry of Education which handles international student affairs ordered this inspection to be conducted in adherence to the requirements laid out in ‘Temporary Measures to Standardise the Quality of Undergraduate Medicine to International Students in China’.
 
In the afternoon of the 24th September, accompanied by Vice-President and the dean of the School of International Education, Xu Shan, four experts conducted an inspection of NMU. They were: Professor Zuo Bin of Central China Normal University, Professor Shen Kunling of the Capital University of Medical Sciences, Professor Wang Xuehong of Sichuan University and Professor Xiao Qiang of Guanxi Medical University. The inspection was also attended by the dean of the Third School of Clinical Medicine, Zhang Yingdong, vice-dean Qi Jianwei, director Zhu Huaigang and the heads, secretaries and international student research supervisors and teachers of labs from a number of different universities. First of all, dean Zhang Yuanchang gave an introduction on the teaching of international students in the Third School of Clinical Medicine. This was followed by a lecture given in English to the experts and international students on hospital internships, and then by an inspection of teaching methods during ward rounds. Finally, the experts and teachers participated in discussions.
The experts and NMU’s leaders approved the hospital and classroom teaching being given to international students majoring in clinical medicine by the Third School of Clinical Medicine. They further praised all of the school’s teachers for their passion and the international student administration for their attention to detail. They encouraged us to give younger teachers more support and training, and to maintain our hard work so that we can improve even more in our teaching of international students.
