About Us
  • Greetings from the President

Never forget why you started, never let go of your dreams, but devote yourselves to medical and health services of China.

Welcome to NMU!

Nanjing Medical University (NMU) dates back to 1934, when it was founded in Zhenjiang as the Jiangsu Provincial College of Health Policy and Management. It has undergone several name changes over the years. In 1938, it was renamed National Jiangsu Medical College. Then, in 1957, the college relocated from Zhenjiang to Nanjing and adopted the name Nanjing Medical College. And it was in 1993 that it was officially designated as Nanjing Medical University.

Over the years, NMU has continuously excelled academically. In 1962, it was listed as one of the first medical colleges in China to offer six-year medical education programs. As early as 1981, NMU was authorized to confer master’s and doctoral degrees. In 2015, NMU achieved another milestone by becoming one of the pioneering medical colleges jointly constructed by the Ministry of Education, the National Health Commission, and the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government. In 2017, NMU was included in the provincial high-level university construction program. The university’s dedication to excellence was further acknowledged in 2021 when it was selected for the Jiangsu High-Level University Construction Peak Plan (Class A). In 2022, NMU was honored to be chosen for the prestigious China’s “Double First-Class”initiative, focusing on building world-class universities and disciplines. Notably, the discipline of public health and preventive medicine at MUN was recognized as a national “Double First-Class” discipline.

The motto of NMU, “Pursue excellence with erudition. Reach perfection with morality,” reflects the university’s core values. NMU’s mission is guided by the principles of Consilience of Medicine and Humanity, Balance between Teaching and Research, and Combination of Basics with Applications. Currently, NMU consists of three campuses-- Jiangning Campus, Wutai Campus and the soon-to-be-opened Changzhou Campus, with nearly 2,000 faculty members, and 20,000 students. The university houses 19 schools specializing in various medical disciplines and maintains collaborations with multiple affiliated hospitals. NMU is committed to internationalization, fostering partnerships with higher education institutions and esteemed organizations, facilitating exchange programs, and expanding the global perspectives of both students and faculty.

We warmly welcome you to the NMU family, where together, we will strive for a healthier and brighter future.

Our university has a rich legacy and a profound commitment to medical education, healthcare services and medical research.. With a steadfast focus on attaining the esteemed status of a “Double First-Class” medical university, we are making significant contributions to fostering a global community dedicated to people’s health and well-being.
