Shen Hongbing, PhD, a professor of Epidemiology in Nanjing Medical University, has earned a number of outstanding titles, including the winner of National Outstanding Youth Science Fundation (2004), National Candidates of New Century Talents Projects, the national excellent doctoral dissertation instructor, national outstanding scientist and technologist, the expert receiving the state council special allowance, et al. He is the principal of Nanjing Medical University, the director of Jiangsu Cancer Biomarkers and Prevention Laboratory and the director of Cancer Personalized Medicine and Collaborative Innovation Center. He is the chairman of Chinese Anti-cancer Association Cancer Epidemiology Professional Committee and Cancer Biological Biomarkers Professional Committee. He was one of the advisory and review committee members of the National Natural Science Foundation of Medicine.
Prof. Shen efficiently assembled a research team and established several unique study populations that have served his scientific inquiry into molecular biomarkers for cancer prevention, diagnosis and prognosis. As the principal investigator, he has directed “863” Key Project, National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation, the National Key Natural Science Foundation, “973” Key Project, and other key projects from the Ministry of Education. He has published more than 400 research articles in Science Citation Index (SCI) journals, including top journals in oncology, genetics and clinical medicine: Nature Genetics, J Clin Oncol, J Clin Invest, Am J Respir Crit Care Med., etc., which were totally cited over 12,000 times. He has been authorized 14 invention patents, awarded the National Natural Science Award (second grade), Ministry of Education University Natural Science Award (first grade), Chinese Medical Association Award (second grade), Chinese Medical Association Preventive Medicine Award (second grade), and Science and Technology Progress Award in Jiangsu Province (first grade).
