On May 18, 2017, Leiden University released the CWTS Leiden Ranking 2017 including 902 universities from 54 countries and regions. 131 universities of mainland China were included in the Ranking.
Nanjing Medical University was listed at the 236thposition in the world and 34th among Chinese universities. Nine universities in Jiangsu Province were listed in the Ranking, and NMU was the fourth among them. Among nine independent medical universities, NMU was ranked at the third place.
The Leiden Ranking 2017 is based on Web of Science data in the period 2012–2015. It was obtained by counting the absolute number of publications of a university and top 50%, 10% and 1% highly cited publications of a university.
