NMU Inaugurates China International Cooperation Center for Environment and Human Health

With a theme of ‘Environment and Human Health’, the initiative ceremony and summit of China International Cooperation Center for Environment and Human Health, which was co-hosted by the Department of Science & Technology and School of Public Health, was held in the auditorium from April 21-22, 2017. It was attended by Duan Xiong, Vice Director-general of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Li Xuqin, Director of the Division of International Cooperation of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology, NMU leaders Chen Qi, Shen Hongbing, Wang Lin and Li Jianqing, representatives from Harvard University, Duke University and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and members of the first academic committee of the International Cooperation Center. The ceremony also attracted managerial staff of Nanjing Medical University, and teachers and students of School of Public Health. Over 200 people participated in the meeting and forum.

The initiative ceremony was hosted by Li Qianqing, Vice President of Nanjing Medical University. The Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China sent a letter congratulating the inauguration of the International Cooperation Center for Environment and Human Health, expecting that the center would enhance the capability of international scientific and technological cooperation, promote talent nurturing, expand the impact of S&T teams. Afterwards, Duan Xiong, Vice Director-general of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology, advanced three expectations in his speech. Firstly, we should pay attention to demand; secondly, we should adhere to the principles of cooperation; thirdly, we should play a leading role in scientific research. Vice Minister Duan Xiong and NMU Party Secretary Chen Qi unveiled the plaque for International Cooperation Center and awarded the letters of appointment to Chinese and foreign directors. At last, Shen Hongbing, President of Nanjing Medical University, delivered a speech. He was determined that NMU would spare no effort in the construction of the center under the guidance of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China and Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology. By strengthening cooperation and exchanges in science and technology, NMU will build the center into an innovative platform and base with high-level capabilities in research, development and cooperation.
After the initiative ceremony, the first meeting of the first academic committee was held. Members of the committee deliberated on the work report of the center and discussed issues about the development plan. They hoped that International Cooperation Center should further focus on environmental factors, major state-level healthcare demands, health problems of domestic and international concerns, and then make breakthroughs in international scientific cooperation. The summit forum was held with the theme of ‘Environment and Human Health’. Experts, teachers and students conducted heated discussions .

China International Cooperation Center for Environment and Human Health is the first state-level international base for scientific and technological cooperation in Nanjing Medical University. The launching of the center opens a new chapter of international exchanges and cooperation for NMU.
