Zhang Lei, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, led a team to conduct a survey at Nanjing Medical University and its Affiliated Sir Run Run Hospital on March 9th, 2017. The team members included Chen Shaojun, Deputy Secretary-General of the Provincial People’s Government, Chen Yijiang, Associate Counsel of Jiangsu Provincial Commission of Health and Family Planning, Wang Chengbin, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Education of Jiangsu Province, Qi Yuwei, District-Mayor of Jiangning, Zhou Yugang, Deputy District-Mayor of Jiangning District. Vice Governor Zhang Lei is in charge of Nanjing Medical University according to a provincial arrangement. This trip aimed to grasp the basic situation from the root level, listen to the suggestions and opinions from teachers and students, and strengthen the guidance on NMU, thus bettering official support and help for the reform and development of the university.
Accompanied by Chen Qi, Party Secretary of NMU, and Shen Hongbing, President of NMU, and other leaders, Vice Governor Zheng Lei paid a visit to Sir Run Run Hospital, Medical Simulation Center and State Key Laboratory of Reproductive Medicine. After that, they held a conference in Room A218 in Dexin Building. Chen Qi hosted the conference. At first, he thanked Vice Governor Zheng Lei who has been always supportive to NMU, and then he introduced the goal of NMU during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, which is to establish a high-level research-oriented medical university with good international reputation and distinctive features. The development demonstrated a good momentum. Subsequently, President Shen Hongbing elaborated on such aspects as NMU’s history, current situation, talent nurturing, scientific research, discipline construction, talent team construction and social services. He pointed out some problems and difficulties . He expressed that all members in the university will make persistent efforts toward the goal of NMU and make contributions to the development of building a new Jiangsu with strong economy, wealthy people, beautiful environment and high degree of social civilization, as well as to the building of Healthy China.
The recent achievements of NMU were praised and confirmed by Wang Chengbin, Deputy Director-General of Department of Education of Jiangsu Province, and Chen Yijiang, Associate Counsel of Jiangsu Provincial Commission of Health and Family Planning. They also expressed the viewpoints and suggestions on current problems and difficulties and on the future development of NMU.
At last, Vice Governor Zhang Lei made a speech. He said that with great potential and bright prospect, NMU had made important contribution to the provincial and national medical and health undertakings. NMU has achieved good results in terms of talent nurturing, scientific research and social services. He said that making a survey is the first step to establish contact with NMU. From now on, he will make efforts to understand NMU comprehensively and deeply, and pay more attention to its reform and development. Relevant departments are required to learn more about its problems and difficulties and offer more help to NMU. He hoped that NMU would play a leading role in the development of medical and health undertakings of Jiangsu Province. Guided by current goals, NMU should carry out connotative development, put its advantages into full play, and build a summit of disciplines, thus making greater contributions to economic and social development of Jiangsu Province.
