Dr. Gunnar Bovim, Rector of Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), led a delegation to NMU from February 27 to March 1, 2017. President Shen Hongbing, Vice Presidents Lu Xiang, Wang Lin, Li Jianqing and Tang Jinhai met with the delegation respectively. The deans and directors of Department of Science & Technology, Department of International Cooperation & Exchange, School of Public Health and the Fourth School of Clinical Medicine took part in the meetings.
During the meeting, leaders from both universities made brief introductions to each university and Dr. Björn Gustafsson and Dr. Steinar Krokstad introduced the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and HUNT Biobank respectively. Both parties expected to construct a joint science &research center in the health field, provide a practical platform and start consistent cooperation in faculty training, student exchange and joint research programs. The two universities signed an MoU after the meeting.
Dr. Gunnar Bovim and the delegation also paid visits to the affiliated hospitals and exchange ideas with hospital faculties on physician training and scientific cooperation. The delegation also visited the Exhibition of the History of NMU, School of Public Health and State Key Laboratory of Reproductive Medicine.
NTNU is located in Trondheim, the third largest city in Norway and is one of the top universities of this country. NTNU is also the largest public research university of Norway, with 14 faculties and 70 departments and divisions and approximately 39,000 students. The university boasts the successful experience in seamless connection of clinical, scientific research and teaching. In 2014, 3 professors from NTNU won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
