A delegation from the University of South Carolina (USC) paid a visit to Nanjing Medical University from January 5 to 6, 2017. The delegation is composed of three members, who are Dr. Harris Pastides, President of USC, Dr. Joan T.A. Gabel, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost of USC, and Professor Li Xiaoming, Director of South Carolina SmartState Center for Healthcare Quality in USC’s Arnold School of Public Health. They were received by NMU leaders Shen Hongbing and Wang Lin, and officials from the Department of International Cooperation & Exchange, School of Public Health and School of Healthcare Management.
The two sides respectively introduced its overview and conducted discussions on joint training programs for Ph.D, healthcare management, public health (preventive medicine), student exchange as well as international courses. They hope that deeper and multidimensional cooperations between two universities would facilitate their international strategies. The delegation visited the two campuses, exchanged ideas when visiting the key laboratories in the School of Public Health and conducted a discussion with students who are going to study in USC.
During their visit, the delegation was received by Zhang Jinghua, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, and Shen Jian, Director-General of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education. Vice Governor Zhang Jinghua pointed out that against the background of building world-class universities and world-class disciplines, Jiangsu Province always pays attention to and encourages international exchange and cooperation. He hoped that USC and NMU would put their advantages into full play in teaching, research, culture and other cooperations so as to provide better education services to peoples. Director-General Shen Jian called for extensive bilateral cooperation in the fields of healthcare and education and for more cooperation between the USC system and universities in Jiangsu.
Established in 1801, the University of South Carolina is a renowned research-based public university with a long history in the U.S. Building cooperative relations in 2015, NMU and USC have carried out close cooperations in such programs as student exchange, joint training and teacher exchange.
