From October 31 to November 4, 2016, Nanjing Medical University and the University of Edinburgh held a training course for the Membership in Orthodontics of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MOrth) examination. This is the first time for China to bring in such a training course. During the course, NMU leaders Shen Hongbing and Wang Lin met with the MOrth examiners from the University of Edinburgh and the University of Hong Kong, and visited the training class on November 2. The opening ceremony of the training course was attended by Professor Wang Lin, Vice President of Nanjing Medical University, Professor Niall McGuinness, head of the academic program in orthodontics at the University of Edinburgh, and Professor Fang Bing, Secretary General of Examination Center of MOrth in Shanghai. A total of over 500 dentists participated in the training.
The MOrth examination is a qualification test for orthodontists in British Commonwealth and European countries. Being a Member in Orthodontics means the orthodontist enjoys a world-renowned fame, and thus it is an international ID that many orthodontists desire.
The symposium on standardized training of orthodontists was simultaneously held. Directors and experts from Peking University, Sichuan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Wuhan University, Sun Yat-sen University and 11 national key clinical specialty departments of orthodontics discussed on such topics as learning from the requirements of MOrth examination, enhancing the standardized training for orthodontists, and improving the training quality. This conference has received a lot of attention and participants have reached a consensus on sustaining the standardized training of orthodontists.
