NMU Delegation Visits American Universities and Institutions

Party Secretary Chen Qi led a delegation to visit Albert Einstein College of Medicine, headquarter of Framingham Heart Study (a research project of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of NIH in collaboration with Boston University), the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and University of Hawaii Cancer Center from Nov. 12th to 18th. Directors and Deans from the General Office of the Party Committee, Development Committee Office, First School of Clinical Medicine and the First Affiliated Hospital accompanied the visit.

Dr. Allen M. Spiegel, Dean of Albert Einstein College of Medicine, warmly received the NMU delegation and introduced the history and recent development of the college. He accompanied the delegation to visit the labs, simulation teaching center, student study and living facilities and so on. The two parties held further discussion on scientific research cooperation, faculty exchange and student training during the visit.

At the headquarter of Framingham Heart Study, the delegation visited the research facilities and listened carefully to the community-based long-term tracking of the family heart disease research progress. And they exchanged ideas on the possible collaborative areas.

At UCLA, Dr. Thomas J. Coates, Director of the International Health Center, met with the delegation. He introduced the basic situation, medical education and research development of the center and both parties shared broad opinions on affiliated hospital cooperation, medical simulation center, faculty & student exchange and so on. NMU delegation also paid visits to some teaching and research medical facilities like Clinical Translational Research Center and ICU during the trip.

At the University of Hawaii Cancer Center, the delegation discussed with Dr. James Turkson on student short-term visit, faculty training and clinical research cooperation.

During the trip to the US, Secretary Chen met with a distinguished alumnus Dr. Wang Cunyu and alumni from Greater Boston area. He awarded a Visiting Professor Certificate to Dr. Dai Weiguo, the Director/Janssen Fellow of Drug Product Development of Global Development Organization, Johnson and Johnson.
