History

Nanjing Medical University was founded in 1934. It was then known as Jiangsu Provincial College of Health Policy and Management and its first president was Mr. Chen Guofu. In 1938 the college was renamed National Jiangsu Medical College. In 1957 the college was moved from Zhenjiang to Nanjing and renamed Nanjing Medical College. In 1962 it became one of the first medical colleges in China that offered six-year medical education programs. In 1981 the college was approved to confer doctoral and master's degrees. In 1993 the college was renamed Nanjing Medical University. Today it is a key university of Jiangsu Province.
