Established in 2002, the NMU School of Pharmacy has a level 1 Ph.D degree program in pharmacy and a post-doctoral research mobile station for the level 1 pharmacy discipline. It was appraised with Grade B in the 4th round of the disciplinary evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education (MoE). The disciplines of pharmacology and toxicology were ranked world top 1‰ by the ESI, and the discipline of chemistry ranked top 1%. Pharmacy and pharmacology ranked first among independent medical universities in the QS World University Rankings® 2021.

In the school, there is now 1 expert included in the “100-1000-10,000 Talent Program”, 2 experts receiving China State Council Special Allowances, 3 experts receiving National Excellent Youth Scholar Fund, and 4 experts receiving Jiangsu Excellent Youth Scholar Fund. The school is structured with 8 departments (Department of Chemistry, Department of Clinical Pharmacology, Department of Clinical Pharmacology, Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis, Department of Pharmacy, Department of Isotopic Pharmacy, Department of Drug Regulation and Pharmacoeconomics), 1 research institute (Institute of Stem Cell and Neural Regeneration), 2 provincial key laboratories (Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Medicine, Jiangsu Provincial Gene Medicine Technology Center), and 1 provincial experimental teaching demonstration center (Jiangsu Provincial Pharmacy Comprehensive Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center).

In recent years, the school has undertaken more than 20 major research projects, including the National Major Scientific and Technological Project-New Drug Development Special Project, NSFC key projects, major research projects, projects of the NSFC Excellent Youth Scholar Fund, key projects of the Jiangsu Natural Science Foundation Excellent Youth Scholar Fund and Jiangsu Natural Science Distinguished Scholar Fund. It also conducts every year an average of 10 NSFC General Projects and NSFC Excellent Youth Scholar Fund. The scientific research outcomes have been published in international authoritative journals such as Nat Med, Circulation, Neuron. The school also outputs a yearly average of 50 SCI-indexed papers.

The school offers two undergraduate programs: pharmacy and clinical pharmacy, both of which are national first-class specialty education program recognized by the Ministry of Education. The pharmacy program passed the specialty certification of the Ministry of Education in 2020. In recent years, the school has been granted with 1 national virtual simulation experiment teaching project, 2 provincial-level first-class courses, 1 Second Prize of National Pharmacy Graduate Education and Teaching Achievement Award, and 1 Second Prize of Jiangsu Province Teaching Achievement Award. Signed with the education and teaching cooperation agreements with well-known overseas universities such as the University of South Carolina, Creighton University, the University of Illinois at Chicago (USA), and the University of Manchester (UK), the school also offers international undergraduates courses, conducts two-way undergraduate student exchanges and recommends outstanding undergraduates for summer school study tours outside China. One dissertation of a postgraduate student has been nominated for the national excellent Ph.D dissertation; undergraduate students of the school have been the winners to the National Experimental Skills Competition for Pharmacy Majoring Students, the Special Prize and the First Prize of the National College Student Pharmacy Forum for many times.

Upholding the motto “Treat People with Sincerity, Study Pharmacy with Dedication”, the faculty and staff of the school will continue working hard and sparing no effort to build our school into a clearly-featured well-known pharmacy school in China!
