Committed to the mission of the first-class undergraduate education reform and innovation of NMU, the Department of Educational Affairs takes charge of the undergraduate teaching operation and management, development of the disciplines, curriculum and teaching materials, development of teaching faculty, innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, management of teaching practice, etc. Facing the development opportunities and challenges enabled by the new era and advancing medical sciences, NMU has established the talent training principles of “humanity-oriented, result-oriented, problem-based, practice-oriented, and evidence-based”. It also established the talent training pathways featuring “holistic education, objective driven, problem & practice-directed learning, evaluation feedback” as the main content, namely abbreviated as the HOPE education philosophy. The Department of Educational Affairs has set up the high-quality medical talent cultivation goals of “focusing on developing qualified builders and reliable successors for the socialist cause, advocating the indicators like the social responsibility, core knowledge building, independent learning, communication skills, critical thinking, innovation and entrepreneurship, and other core competencies”. The Department of Educational Affairs worked to enhance the base and ensure the strength, continuously promoting the strategies of “Undergraduate Teaching Revitalization Plan”. Focusing on the vision of building the “first-class medical undergraduate education in China”, the Department of Educational Affairs continues to perfect the HOPE philosophy, I-CARE model, and excellent new medical talent training system adapted to a high-level research medical university through the “Five New” teaching projects such as “new mission of enhanced holistic talent development, new medical first-class disciplinary innovation, new model learning community creation, new incentive for teacher development, new connotation quality system formation”, enabling NMU be a top-ranking university at home and abroad in medical talent training capacity, specialty construction level, and talent training quality.
