The Second Affiliated Hospital Unveils a New Southern Facility of Its Kidney Center

At nine o’clock on March 3, 2016, the Second Affiliated Hospital of NMU unveiled the plaque to open a new southern facility of its Kidney Center. The unveiling ceremony was attended by hospital leaders, namely President Ji Guozhong, Party Secretary Chen Chunyan, Vice President Wen Hao, Vice President Gan Weihua, Chief Accountant Zhang Qibin, and Director Yang Junwei of the Kidney Center.

The Kidney Center covered an area of 5,000 square meters. It was composed of a blood purification center with 130 blood purification equipments, specialized wards with 120 beds, a research center and a clinic.

The Department of Nephrology of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University was founded in 1980. In 2008, the Department was reconstructed and expanded in order to improve discipline construction and strengthen the capability of patient care, teaching and scientific research, thus building a brand new Kidney Center. With the expansion of blood purification facility, the Center covers an area of 7,000 square meters and the number of dialysis machines increases to 260. Simultaneously, modern laminar flow ultraclean operation rooms and a clinical laboratory have been established.

The expansion of new southern facility will attract more patients with severe diseases, and will diversify the treatment modes of blood purification, such as blood perfusion, plasma adsorption, double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) and other specialized treatments, offering consolidated foundation to extend patients’ lives and improve their living quality.
