Professor Janice Deakin, Vice Chancellor of Canada University of Western Ontario, Visited NMU

On the afternoon of Nov. 9th, a delegation of the University of Western Ontario, led by Vice Chancellor and provost, Professor Janice Deakin, paid a visit to our school. The visiting members were Vice Provost Professor Julie McMullin, Dean of Hugh Lick Medical School Professor Michael Strong, Director of Health Sciences, Nursing Department Professor Mary-Anne Andrusyszyn, Affiliated University Hospital Surgical Director John Denstedt, Hugh Lick Medical School, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology Professor Feng Qingping and Director of the Technology Promotion Center, Asia, Mr. Ting Ling.
Vice President Shen Hongbing received the guests in Years Court, accompanied by leaders from Graduate School, School of Nursing, Office of International Exchange and Cooperation and the Editorial Department of the Journal of Nanjing Medical University. Vice-Chancellor Deakin and his delegation were invited by Professor Cheng Guanliang, chief of the First Huaian Affiliated Hospital Neurology Department in April this year, following Professor Strong, Dean of Hugh Lick Medical School’s first visit to NMU, hoping to discuss further cooperation in specific plans and programs.
On behalf of NMU, Prof. Shen Hongbing, after extending warm welcome to Professor Deakin and his entourage, introduced NMU’s recent achievements in teaching, research, and discipline construction. Professor Strong introduced to us their general situation and development strategy of University of Western Ontario and Hugh Lick Medical School. Both sides reached a consensus in terms of teacher training and exchange visits, joint PhD student training, undergraduate’s exchange etc. Professor Deakin also invited us to send a delegation to visit the University of Western Ontario, to enhance the mutual understanding and promote further cooperation between each other.
On the afternoon of Nov.8th, in the library auditorium, Professor Strong made a presentation entitled "Alterations in RNA metabolism in motor neuron disease", and discussed with teachers and doctoral students. Director of Nursing Department Professor Mary-Anne Andrusyszyn met the leadership and some teachers in Nursing School of NMU, and visited nursing teaching and training facilities to explore the possibilities of cooperation and communication in teaching and research of Nursing.
