The Preventive Medicine Experimental Teaching Center was established in September 1998. In January 2000, it was awarded the “Provincial Teaching Experimental Center” of Higher Education Institutions in Jiangsu Province.In August 2005, it became the construction site of the “Basic Course Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Higher Education Institutions” in Jiangsu Provinceand passed the acceptance test in December 2007. In 2009, the center was selected as a national experimental teaching demonstration center.
The center has thoroughly implemented the teaching philosophy of “People-Oriented, Student-Oriented, Insisting On Integrating Knowledge Transfer, Ability Cultivationand Quality Improvement” in experimental teaching, and established an experimental teaching atmosphere conducive to cultivating the exploration spirit and innovative thinking ability of students, and innovatively constructeda new multi-directional, modular, and hierarchical experimental teaching system.The textbook Comprehensive Experiments of Preventive Medicine featuring comprehensiveness, design and case teaching compiled, revised and published by the center has been rated as an excellent textbook for colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province.The Data Management and Analysis of Medical Research edited by Professor Yu Rongbin was selected as a key textbook for colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province for the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period. The Statistical Interpretation of Selected Cases of Clinical Trials edited by Professor Chen Feng was selected as a key textbook for colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province during the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” period.The textbook Practical Skills in Public Health edited by Wang Jianming and Professor Ni Chunhui, the first supporting textbook for public health practice skills training courses, is a deep integration of typical cases and practical operations, aiming to cultivate high-quality compound public health talents.“Innovation and Practice of Public Health and Preventive Medicine Talent Training Model” won the First Prize of Jiangsu Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award and the Second Prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award in 2011 and in 2014.“Reconstructing the 5C Practice Innovation Ability System and Training Compound Public Health Talents” won the Second Prize of the Jiangsu Teaching Achievement Award.
The center has a basic hygiene laboratory, an on-site monitoring laboratory, an instrument analysis laboratory, a data analysis laboratory, an innovation practice platform, and a public health practice skill training platform.The existing teaching laboratory covers an area of 1,910 m2; there are 3,165 m2 student innovation research platform, 1,678 units of instruments and equipment; the total assets are valued with over RMB 49.1 million;it offers more than 300 experimental projects to undergraduates and graduate students from NMU and other universities, as it also embraces diversified open management protocol.The center adopts the mangement protocol headed by the director. It is staffed with 1 director, 2 deputy directors, and 1 executive deputy director. There are 158 teachers and experiment staff, and 10 part-time teachers, with reasonably balanced staff team in titles, education degrees, and age rankings.The center carries out unified management of people, finance, materials. But it shares the available resources. It has become a diversified open experimental teaching demonstration centerwith advanced educational philosophy, complete experimental facilities, sophisticated experimental equipment, scientific teaching system, experimental teaching material system, reasonable team structure, first-class management, and distinctive characteristics.
