The Jiangsu Key Lab of Cancer Biomarkers, Prevention and Treatment

Overview

The Jiangsu Key Lab of Cancer Biomarkers, Prevention and Treatment was established on the basis of the Cancer Center, Nanjing Medical Universityand was approved by the government of Jiangsu province in 2011.The laboratory is active in the research fields of genetic susceptibility of cancer and molecular markers, molecular mechanism of cancer occurrence and development, cancer individualized diagnosis and treatment. This mission of the key laboratory is in concert with the nation’s long-term goal for the development of biomedical research, namely, to promote the understanding of the biological basis for disease, and to give priority to the research that will help the prevention and intervention of those critical human diseases.

Currently, the key laboratory has formed a stable and high-talented research group. Until now, 56 permanent staff members are included in the key laboratory. Among the 56 staff members, 40 members have senior professional titles, five professors have been awarded as the Cheung Kong Scholars by the State Ministry of Education of China, and four members have acquired the National Science Fund for Distinguished Youth Scholar. With the world-class research infrastructure, groups within the Key laboratory have been rather productive, and formed an active cancer research mini-community,which is not only considered as top tier program in China, but is also well-respected within the international community.Since its establishment in 2011, the key laboratory has accomplished many research projects with great achievements in cancer prevention and treatment. Until 2016, the key laboratory has undertook more than 139 projects, which includes items of the Innovative Research Groups of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Precision Medical Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the National Key Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), Major Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China. Meanwhile, the key laboratory has obtained 19 Provincial or Ministerial Scientific Awards. The total number of publications is over 500, and most of the researches were published on SCI journals. The number of papers with impact factor over 10.0 is more than 30, which includes some papers which were published in the top journals such asNat Genet.Nat Commun.Am J Hum Genet.Am J Respir Crit Care Med.Hepatology and Gut.
