Department of Hygienic Analysis and Detection

Department of Hygienic Analysis and Detection

Department of Hygienic Analysis and Detection was established in 2002, based primarily on the Hygienic Chemistry Office. Currently, the department has 17 faculty and staff, including 3 professors, 2 associate professors, 6 lecturers, 1 senior technologist, 1 technologist and 4 technologist assistants. The Director of the department is Dr. Li lei.

The Department takes charge of courses of Hygienic Chemistry, Instrumental Analysis, Analytical Chemistry, Food Inspection, Water Quality Examination, Air Inspection, Bio-Matrices Inspection, Cosmetics Inspection, and Laboratory Quality Control for Master of Public Health (MPH) students majored in “Direction of Preventive Medicine”, “Direction of Nutrition and Food Health” or “Direction of Hygienic Analysis and Detection” among undergraduates and postgraduates in School of Public Health. More than twenty basic courses and experimental teaching are also carried out by the department among students in other departments. The department has master’s and doctorate programs. In 2012, the department began to grant bachelor degree of Science independently.

The department have good conditions for scientific research and analysis, the existing liquid chromatography -mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS), ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) -mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS), gas chromatography -mass spectrometry (GC-MS), high performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC), gas chromatograph (GC), atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS), cold atomic fluorescence spectrometer (AFS), fluorescence spectroscopy, ion chromatography (IC), ultraviolet spectrometer, ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer and so on. The main research fields include: New technology and new method for hygienic inspection;Mechanistic study and analysis of active components in foods and herbs; Study for the insecticide mechanism and he relationship of structure and activity of bio-pesticide; Identification and Risk Assessment of chemical contaminants in Food/Environment; Micro RNA and cancer, etc.

In the recent years, the department has undertaken 10 national and provincial research programs, among which there are four general programs and one youth program supported by National Natural Science Fund. Furthermore, the department has published 14 SCI papers and edited or taken part in editing textbooks projected by Ministry of Health and other academic works.
