The Experimental Teaching Center for Basic Medical Sciences was established in May, 2004. It was approved as a model center of experimental teaching in Jiangsu Province in 2005, and a national model center of experimental teaching in 2006. It has three laboratories: the Functional Laboratory, the Morphological Laboratory and the Human Anatomy Laboratory.
    The Center, occupying an area of 9130 square meters and possessing 1934 pieces of equipment, has assets totaling RMB¥38,610,000. Its faculty consists of 64 part-time and full-time teachers, and 28 technicians. The Center is responsible for all the laboratory courses of basic medical sciences offered to 13 majors with an annual teaching load of 510, 000 class hours. In the last 6 years, the Center has undertaken 18 teaching research projects, authored 9 laboratory teaching textbooks, published 24 teaching papers, and has been honored with 18 awards at both the provincial and ministerial levels for its teaching achievements. It has also undertaken 42 projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China, and published 340 research papers, including 110 SCI papers. In the open experimental platform of the Center, the undergraduates have published 48 research papers, including 9 SCI papers.
