  • Overview

Department of Pathogen Biology (former Department of Parasitology) of Nanjing Medical University was authorized to confer doctor’s degree in 1981. It was approved as a Jiangsu provincial key discipline in 1993 and a national key discipline nurturing base for Jiangsu Province higher institutions in 2005. The Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Modern Pathogen Biology is located in the Department. Currently, our department has 17 staff, including 5 full-time professors, 9 lecturers. 
The Department focuses its research mainly on molecular immunology of pathogenic organism and related diseases. Main research areas include: molecular immunology and epidemiology of parasitic diseases, biology and immunology of vaccines, vector resistance to insecticides, and modern biological techniques.
The Department has been awarded for more than 200 research projects above the provincial or ministerial level, including one national key project of the tenth Five-Year Plan, eight 863 and 973 Program projects, 37 National Natural Science Foundation projects (including 1 key project), and 2 NIH R01 projects. The total research funds were over RMB
42.6 million. The Department has published over 320 academic papers and won 30 awards of advances in science and technology above the provincial or ministerial level.
