Founded in 1955, the Department of Pathophysiology now has 14 full-time faculty and staff members. The department was authorized to grant master’s (MS) degree in 1981. A PhD training program was added in 2000. Courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels are offered with a teaching load of 1800 class hours per year. Currently, over 40 graduate students are enrolled in our Master’s and PhD programs. Combined, over 50 post-graduate degrees have been awarded. 

The Department focuses its research on the molecular mechanisms underlying major human diseases. In the past five years, our research has been funded by the National 973 Program, the National 863 Program, and the National Natural Science Foundation. Our work has been published on such prestigious journals as Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol (2006), Cardiovasc Res (2009), Nucleic Acids Res (2009, 2011, 2012), J Biol Chem (2011), Circ Res (2011), Basic Res Cardiol (2011), Am J Respiratory Crit Care Med (2012), Hepatology (2013), and J Nat Cancer Inst (2013).
