Nanjing Medical University Alumni Association (NJMUAA) had successfully held its Second Membership Representatives Meeting andnew council member election meeting in Jiangning Campuson June 14, 2014. More than 200 alumnusincluding current university officials such as Dr.Chen Qi, a former president,Dr. Shen Hongbing who is recently step into presidential position of the university, and former council members, deans of all schools and representatives alumni membersattended the meeting.
At the meeting, Dr.Chen Qi, the secretary of the party committee of our university, delivered a welcome speech with focuses on introduction of the university development over the past decadeincluding education philosophy, talent cultivation, discipline construction and academicreputation. He then presented the ongoing preparation of the upcoming 80th Anniversary of the university. Furthermore, he discussed the future plan of theuniversity development in terms of our overall objective, functionalassignmentof two campuses including construction of the new university affiliated Mingde Hospital. Professor Zhou Yafu, the deputy secretary of the party committee of our university, who also served as the vice chairman and secretary general of the First Council of alumni association, delivered a “Work Report”titled “Creation of the new Opportunity for Alumni by Concerted Efforts and Win-win Cooperation”.
Mr. Wang Ruixin, the vice president of the university, presented candidates for the new Council of Alumni Association. Then, after careful deliberation, representatives at the meeting unanimouslypassed the “Work Report” of the First Council and electednew members of the Second Council. Furthermore, the new council elected Li Lanqing, Jiang Zuojun and Chen Qi as honorary chairmen. Dr. Shen Hongbingwas then elected as the new Chairman. Wang Ruixin, Wang Xingpeng, QiaoXuebin, Li Dinggang, Zhu Li, Ling Wenhua, Gao Li, Gao Yue, Jiang Pengcheng and Cai Jing were elected as vice chairmen, and finally Wang Ruixin as the secretary general.
Mr. Wang Xingpeng, the Chairman of NJMUAA Shanghai chapter who is also the president of Shanghai First People’s Hospital, delivered a speech on behalf of all alumni. He recalled that “our life at NMU was so exciting that we will remember the rest of our lives; we have receivedmentorshipfrom teachers and learnt knowledge which helps our professional development tremendously.” He hoped all alumni “will continue communication as well as care to each other for the days to come, improve ourselves and realize our dream”.
Lastly, Dr.Shen Hongbing, the newly elected chairman of the Council and the president of the university gavea speech in which he expressed his appreciation for being elected to serve the NJMUAA. He then highly praised the achievement by the First Council over the past ten years. He promisedthat the Second Council will strictly comply with “Articles of Association”by which his new council will work with all members and local chapters of the alumni association to continuously enhance communicationamong alumni and between alumni and our Alma Mater,improveunderstanding and friendship and making the alumni association to be our belovedfamily. He hoped that all alumni should join hands to seek for truth, innovation and common development, serve the society and continue to support the development of our Alma Mater for its glory future.
The meeting also held adonation ceremony to accept two major donations. The first one of 200,000 Yuan (RMB)was from alumni Dr. Chen Jiazhenand his wifeMrs. Jiang Huiquanwhich will be used to establish an “Alumni Scholarship”. The second one was from Mr. Cao Jianqiu and his wife Mrs. Zhu Xudongwho donated 200,000Yuan (RMB) each year for 10 consecutive years to set up the “Changjian (long-sword) Scholarship”.
Nanjing Medical University Alumni Association was established on October 12, 2004. Currently, it has oversea alumni association branch (ONMUAA), 8 domestic local chapters and 4 more local chapters under preparation. It also has 2 alumni associations for the secondary school, 2 sodalities for the same grade, 1 regional alumni association for the same major and many other alumni associations for the secondary school and sodalities for the same grade are under preparation.
