The Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University on June 6th 2014 held a ceremony to celebrate the beginning of construction on its new southern extension.. Prof. Chen Qi, Party Secretary of Nanjing Medical University, Prof. Shen Hongbing, president of Nanjing Medical University, Prof. Lu Xiang, vice president of Nanjing Medical University and director of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University all attended the ceremony, together with Ms. Gen Yin, director of Jiangsu Development and Reform Commission's Social Development department, Mr. Lan Qing, director of Jiangsu Provincial Commission of Health and Family Planning's Social Health department, Mr. Tao Hongbing, director of Jiangsu Provincial Commission of Health and Family Planning's Financial Planning department, Mr. Shi Yin, PartySecretary of the Rehenanlu Work Committee, Mr. Mei Kun, Solicitor General for Gulou , Mr. Shen Ruilin, director of the NMU Party Committee Office, Mr. Wu Bingjiang, head of the NMU President’s Office, as well as NMU student representatives and leaders from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University.
The ceremony was chaired by Prof. Ji Guozhong, Party Secretary of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. Prof. Ji read out various messages from Prof. Chen Qi, Prof Shen Hongbing and Mr. Lan Qing, followed by a speech given by Prof. Lu Xiang. He mentioned that as the development of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University has entered a crucial phase, there is a pressing need for space to grow. Since the beginnings of the extension project in 2009 there have been difficulties, but with the help of excellent staff in revelant departments, the hospital has already achieved significant successes, including demolition and financing. The area of the planned 70 meter-high southern building will measure 50,000 square meters, including 17 levels above ground and 3 under ground. After the completion of the southern extension, the hospital will boast 500 new beds and 300 new parking spaces.
In order to combat corruption while completing the project, the hospital agreed to various anti-corruption procedures with the Gulou Solicitor General at the ceremony.
To the sound of thunderous applause, Prof.Chen Qi, Prof. Shen Hongbin, Mr. Lan Qing and Prof. Lu Xiang together announced the commencement of the southern extension. The leaders and representatives then ceremonially laid the initial foundation stone.
