NMU Hosts 3rd Board of Education's Meeting 1st Plenary Session

On March 28th, the first plenary session of the third Inaugural Meeting of the Nanjing Medical University Board of Directors was successfully held in Zhangjiagang. More than 70 members, including Ren Yanshen, former Deputy Secretary of Jiangsu Communist Party Committee, Vice-Chairman of Jiangsu CPPCC, and Chairman of the NMU Board of Education; Wang Xialin, former Standing Committee Member of Jiangsu Communist Party Committee, Deputy Director of Jiangsu People’s Congress, and Honorary Chairman of the NMU Board of Education; Ding Xiaochang, Deputy Director-General of the Jiangsu Department of Education; Guo Mingyan, Deputy Head of Gulou District; leaders of NMU, including Chen Qi, Zhou Yafu, Zhang Zhufan, Xia Youbing, Wang Ruixin, and Wang Lin; as well as directors of all the NMU departments attended the meeting. Zhang Zhufan, Vice-President of NMU, presided.

All the board directors were invited to view The NMU 2013 Chronicle.” Then Zhou Yafu, Secretary-General of the Board of Education, summarized and commented on the successes of NMU's 2nd Board of Education. Chen Qi, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of NMU, announced a Board resolution on “Appointing 68 People, including Sun Bing, as Directors of the 3rd NMU Board of Education.” Board Chairman Ren Yanshen then presented Letters of Appointments and Donation Certificates to the directors of the 3rd Board of Education.

Mr. Chen Qi gave a report on NMU's progress and success in 2013 to all the directors, touching upon four aspects, that is, teaching and team development, discipline development and scientific research, affiliated hospitals and social welfare, and university general management. He elaborated that in 2014 NMU would, in accordance with the Statutes of NMU, further improve personnel systems and teaching, enhance quality of management, strengthen the university general operations, and promote NMU's inherent quality. The spirit of NMU would be further stimulated by cooperating with provincial departments and government, and revitalising NMU on new platforms, as well as through the moving of campus to its southern location, finishing construction of the NMU affiliated Mingde Hospital, and completing stage 2 of NMU Kangda College (Lianyungang Campus), as well as further optimising resource allocation, and finally through the NMU 80th Anniversary to be celebrated in 2014..

At the meeting, the directors offered their feedback and comments. Mr. Ding Xiaochang pointed out that cooperation with provincial departments and government would be crucial for the coming development of NMU; and that the Education Department has always attached great importance to the development of NMU and would offer strong support. He added that clinical medicine development is the foundation of a medical university, and that professional development, teaching and scientific research should be improved. The relationship between health and administrative departments should be developed, so as to make greater contributions in cultivating general practitioners; and that after the introduction of the Second Child Policy for Only-Child Parents, NMU should prepare professionals in pediatrics,

gynaecology and obstetrics, disease prevention, geriatrics and other disciplines, and make more contributions to international exchange. Other directors also made their contributions to the discussion, offering comments on how to further develop NMU.

Honorary Chairman of the NMU Board of Education, Wang Xialin, required NMU to carefully study the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CCPCC, to strengthen medical professional development in terms of their sense of responsibility and sense of mission, to continue accelerating in the spirit of reform and innovation, to serve society, and allow the Board of Education to devote itself to establishing a modern university, to contribute ideas and exert itself in the creation of a first-class medical university.

Board Chairman Ren Yanshen gave the concluding speech. He acknowledged the contributions of NMU in professional development, scientific research and social welfare, and recognized the directors’ achievements in teamwork and effective cooperation.. He hoped those experienced directors joining the new Board of Education would work harder to make new achievements, and those new directors would bring new concepts, new ideas, and break new ground. He also hoped that the new NMU Board of Education would contribute greatly in sharing resources, cooperating and interacting for NMU's benefit, revitalising the work of the Board of Directors in order to be a practical and effective force in the reform and development of NMU.
