Discipline Construction Promotional Meeting Convened in NMU

On June 15th, 2018, the NMU Discipline Construction Promotional Meeting was convened and the whole university leadership attended the meeting, along with the academic pacemakers of provincial preponderant disciplines and key disciplines, relevant schools' leadership, Graduate School and Discipline Office staff. The meeting was hosted by the Vice President Prof. Zhibin Hu.

  

In the meeting, Prof. Hu introduced the background and significance of convening this promotional meeting. The Dean of Graduate School, Prof. Feng Chen presented detailed interpretation on NMU fourth round discipline assessment result and pointed out the advantages and disadvantages of the integral development of NMU disciplines. The Dean of Public Health School, Prof. Yankai Xia delivered a report of promotional plan for construction on public health and preventive medicine disciplines from 8 aspects, including discipline management optimization, global health center, international talent recruitment, platform resource construction, talent cultivation quality, scientific research and innovation skills, technology transfer service, and cultural connotation construction. The participants provided constructive suggestions on how to promote discipline construction.

  

The President of NMU Prof. Hongbing Shen pointed out that promoting discipline construction is the current focus of our work, so that we should think profoundly and clear our thoughts, exploit potentialities and increase the quantity, centralize our force to construct key projects so as to upgrade the integral disciplines quality with the development of public health and preventive medicine at the core. Besides, Prof Shen required the full cooperation of related functional departments to insure the implementation of the discipline construction plan.

  

In the end, the Party Secretary Prof. Changqing Wang delivered concluding remarks and presented four requirements on NMU discipline construction work: Firstly, all should summarize and reflect on the fourth round discipline assessment result so as to map out the relations and clear ideas; secondly, all should take full advantage of the assessment result to find out the disparity and the reason; thirdly, all should find the focus on promoting discipline construction while considering the development of all disciplines; fourthly, decompose the task so as to find the disadvantages accurately and lead to targeted construction. Finally, Prof. Wang reinforced that the discipline construction is not the responsibility of one school or department but that of the whole university. The whole university faculty should optimize the current discipline quality and increase the quantity and steadily implement the discipline construction with a specific purpose.
