2014 China-Canada Symposium in Atherosclerosis and Cardiovascular Disease held in Nanjing

“2014 China-Canada symposium in atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease” was held from Oct. 31st to Nov. 2nd, 2014 in Nanjing. It was co-launched by Chinese Association of Pathophysiology Atherosclerosis Society (CAPAS) and Canadian atherosclerosis, thrombosis and vascular biology society, and sponsored by Cardiovascular Translational Medicine Collaborative Innovation Center of Jiangsu Province, the Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Disease and Molecular Intervention of Jiangsu Province and the Department of Pathophysiology of Nanjing Medical University. The conference was co-chaired by the Professor Liu Guoqing, the chairman of Chinese Atherosclerosis Society (CAS) and Professor Shen Xinyi, the director of Diabetes Research Center of the University of Manitoba, Canada. Professor Liu Depei from Chinese Academy of Medical Science and Professor Zhang Yun from Shandong University participated in the meeting. Professor Chen Qi, Secretary of CPC committee and Professor Zhang Zhufan, the vice-president of NMU attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. About 150 participants were present at the conference, including those engaged in basic and clinical research of cardiovascular disease, clinical physicians and graduate students.

Experts and scholars from different universities (including Toronto University, Dalhousie University, Ottawa University, McMaster University, Manitoba University, Calgary University, Alberta University, Medical School of Peking University, Medical School of Shandong University and the Third Military Medical University, Medical School of Central South University, Tianjin Medical University and Nanjing Medical university) lectured and reported on topics of atherosclerosis, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, atherosclerosis and thrombosis. All the attendances exchanged views on cardiovascular disease from perspectives of the basic research, the clinical value and the epidemiological sense. This meeting built a stage for multi-communication between basic researches of cardiovascular disease and clinical treatments, which enhanced the further cooperation between China and Canada in the field of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.
