The first transgenic pigs were cloned in NMU

On October 13th, the first four transgenic pigs were born in our Experimental Base for Transgenically Cloned Pigs, the first research achievement of Jiangsu Province Key Laboratory for Xenotransplantation since established in August this year. Currently, those pigs were in good health.
This batch of pigs were hCD46 knockout (alpha-gal) female pigs, whose mating hCD46 knockout (alpha-gal) male pigs after sexual maturity can obtain a sufficient number of homozygous pigs, for pre-clinical research of xenogeneic tissue and organ transplantation.
The establishment of our transgenically cloned pig production platform and the birth of 4 such pigs mark a new level of our xenotransplantation research.
